Carmel Man, Firefighter Dies From 9/11-Related Illness, Family Says CARMEL, N.Y. -- A Carmel man who served as a firefighter in New York City has died due to an illness contracted from working at Ground Zero following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, according to the LoHud.com.  The family of Thomas John Kelly, 58, said he contracted throat cancer after working in the Lower Manhattan area following the attacks.
