Trio Nabbed After Stealing Cart Of Groceries From Stop & Shop In North White Plains: Police Three men face charges after stealing a shopping cart full of merchandise from a Stop & Shop supermarket in Westchester, police announced.  The arrests resulted from an incident on Wednesday, Feb. 21, when a larceny was reported at the Stop & Shop located at 670 North Broadway in North White Plains, North Castle Police announced on Tuesday, Feb. 27.  According to the department, three suspects had acted together to steal a cart full of merchandise from the store. Check Fraud On Rise In Mamaroneck: Often Stolen From Mail, Altered, Police Say Authorities in Westchester are warning residents of an increase in "check washing," a scheme where checks are stolen from the mail and altered by criminals.  The warning was issued on Wednesday, Feb. 28 by the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department, which is currently investigating a rise in check fraud.  According to the department, the "check washing" schemes consist of criminals stealing mail in bulk looking for checks made payable to recipients. 2 Firefighters Injured In Blaze At White Plains Residence Two firefighters were injured while battling a blaze at a residence in Westchester.  The fire happened in White Plains on Thursday, Feb. 29 at a residence on South Broadway, according to the city's fire department.  The blaze began in the attic and walls of the structure but was quickly knocked out before it could spread and cause more damage to the home, firefighters said.  No occupants in the home were harmed, but two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the effort to put out the blaze, the department said.
