West Deptford Contractor Who Drowned In NJ Creek ID'd: Authorities Valentin Garciagaona, a 36-year-old West Deptford man, drowned in a creek in Gloucester County on Wednesday, May 14, authorities said. Garciagaona was working as a contractor at a private home along Big Timber Creek in Westville when he lost his footing on an embankment and entered the water, according to the Gloucester County Office of Emergency Management. 97-Year-Old Man Hospitalized In Jersey City Fire: Prosecutor A fire injured a 97-year-old man in Jersey City on Thursday, May 15, authorities said. At 1:30 p.m., the Jersey City Fire Department responded to 318 York St. and found a fire in a basement apartment, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. While battling the blaze, firefighters located an injured 97-year-old man, Suarez said. He was transported to a nearby hospital before being hospitalized at a burn unit where he remains in stable condition, Suarez said. Woman Fatally Stabbed In Phillipsburg: Prosecutor A 26-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in Phillipsburg the morning of Friday, May 16, authorities said. At 3 a.m., officers were flagged down on the 400 block of Anderson Street where they found the woman with stab wounds, the Warren County Prosecutor's Office said. She was transported to St. Luke's Hospital where she was pronounced dead, authorities said. The woman, who has not been identified and the alleged perpetrator, who was also not identified, were known to each other, authorities said. The investigation is ongoing, authorities said.

Somers Point Arsonist Learns Fate: Prosecutor A 24-year-old Somers Point man was sentenced to three years in prison on Thursday, May 15, after setting fire to a home, authorities said. Deshaun Howard had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated arson in January, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.
