Little Ferry Police Athletic League Organizes Peer Leadership Training LITTLE FERRY, N.J. -- The Little Ferry Police Athletic League will sponsor a peer leadership training seminar starting on April at at Memorial Gym. The 10-week program is for kids in grades 6-8. Attendees will learn how to function as a team in a fitness-based setting. Sessions will focus on functional body skill movements, tactical strength, conditioning concepts and mental training.  Classes are free and will be held every Friday at 3:30 p.m. until June 10. Oradell's Habitat Bergen Opens Registration For 5K ORADELL, N.J. -- Habitat for Humanity in Bergen County will host the "5K Race to Build" on Saturday, April 16 in New Overpeck Park.Bib pick-up and new runner registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the race will begin at 9 a.m. in front of the Amphitheater.  Registration is $25 per runner and can be completed online.  All participants will receive a t-shirt.

Casino Night Honors Harrington Park Valley Program Leader HARRINGTON PARK, N.J. -- The Valley Regional PTO raised more than $41,000 at its Casino Night on April 1. Approximately 350 people attended the event that also honored Kathleen Vuoncino, the leader of the program.  The Valley Program is designed for 3-18 year olds on the autism spectrum. During Vuoncino’s tenure, the Valley Program has expanded from nine classes to 23. It is part of the Northern Valley Regional school district and is attended by students from 33 towns.

Bergen County Sheriff Speaks To Paramus Rotary Club PARAMUS, N.J. -- Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino was the guest speaker at the Paramus Rotary Club meeting on Thursday, March 31. Saudino discussed the consolidation of the County Police Department into the Sheriff's Department. A measure he says could save up to $200 million over 20 years.  The sheriff also discussed topics like the recent string of bomb threats at area schools and the Westfield Garden State Plaza “gunman” event. Saudino became sheriff in 2011. He spent nine years as the chief of police in Emerson prior to becoming sheriff.
