Wood-Ridge Scout Collecting Lunches For Homeless WOOD-RIDGE, N.J. -- Wood-Ridge Eagle Scout candidate Matthew Cupo is collecting lunch kits for the hungry for his project. The donations will support the Bridges group, a non-profit that benefits the homeless. The kits help feed the hungry when hot meals aren't available.  Cupo said he hopes to collect 300 kits. Items he needs include tuna or chicken salad meals with crackers, fruit cup or apple sauce, pretzels or chips, granola or cereal bars, and bottles of water.  Collection boxes can be found at the civic center, 495 Highland Ave., and Cupo's house, 118 Lincoln Ave.

Bloomingdale Awards Contract For Lake Work BLOOMINGDALE, N.J. -- The Bloomingdale Borough Council awarded the  Star Lake Road improvement project to Oak Ridge's Mike Fitzpatrick & Son Inc. recently, according to NorthJersey.com.  The borough received 13 bids for the project. Fitzpatrick& Son was the lowest bidder at $676,317 while the high bid was over $1.2 million, NorthJersey.com reported.  Mayor Jonathan Dunleavy said the RFP was necessary because of a $220,000 state grant that was attched to the project, NorthJersey.com said.  Click here to read the NorthJersey.com story.

Fair Lawn Cub Scouts Donate 130 Pounds Of Food To Local Pantry FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- The Fair Lawn Cub Scout Pack 45 donated 130 pounds of food and 20 sock and toiletry gift bags to St. Anne's food pantry on Dec. 17. According to Cub Scout Committee Chair Jess Hanson, Pack 45 started collecting food back in October. The food drive was part of their community service project in order to be able to compete in the pinewood derby in January.  Cub Scout Pack 45 is made up of 46 boys between the ages of Kindergarten and fifth grade as well as 15 "sisters and seekers" (girls).

Teaneck College Alum Wins Big With National Bowling Team TEANECK, N.J. -- Danielle McEwan, an alum of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, won the gold medal at the 2015 World Bowling Women's Championships in Abu Dhabi. McEwan received her bachelor's degree in Teaneck in 2013 and played for Fairleigh Dickinson's bowling team.  Team USA took advantage of Korea's early struggles to build a 40-pin lead after five frames and cruised to the win help from left-hander Shannon Pluhowsky (238), Shannon O'Keefe (214) and doubles gold medalists Kelly Kulick (214) and Danielle McEwan (202).

Bergenfield Students Earns Bronze Metal In New Jersey Competition BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- The Bergenfield Quiz Bowl Team placed third at the Northern New Jersey Academic Competition at Leonia High School on Dec. 12. In the 50 team field, the  bronze recognition marks the school's first trophy ever. The team, captained by Kay James and Dean Connors and advised by Mr. Baldwin, hopes to run a tournament on campus this school year.
