Born February 16, 1951, Mark was the oldest of three children born to Robert Andrew Hemm and Jean Murray Hemm. He grew up in New Rochelle and later Pelham Manor before graduating magna cum laude from Washington and Lee University in 1973, where he earned membership in Phi Beta Kappa as well as the Alpha Epsilon Delta International Premedical Honor Society. NTSB Says No Evidence Engineer Used Cell Phone At Time Of Crash WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The engineer of Amtrak Train 188, which derailed while en route to New York on May 12, was not using his cell phone at the time of the crash according to a report released by the National Transportation Safety Board on Monday. To determine whether the phone was in “airplane mode” or was powered off, investigators in the NTSB laboratory in Washington have been examining the phone’s operating system, which contains more than 400,000 files of meta-data.
