The scammers -- whose number shows up on caller ID as 888-837-1696 -- have been telling residents that they are overdue on their utility bill and that their electricity will be turned off unless they make payment, police said. Driver Hits Sloatsburg Construction Zone, Damages Car, Police Say SLOATSBURG, N.Y. -- Whoops -- a driver not watching where he was going on southbound Route 17 in Sloatsburg on Friday drove right into a construction zone, according to the Ramapo Police Department.The unidentified man left his lane and hit the construction lane, which has just been excavated by the construction company, sending his car into the trench, causing heavy damage to the vehicle, police said.
