Georgetown Fire Department Spells Out How Much Equipment Actually Costs
GEORGETOWN, Conn. -- Volunteers with the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department spend hours volunteering their time helping to keep residents safe.But during their downtime, they decided to ask residents if they knew how much all the gear they wear and use actually costs. The result? Most people answered with a number way under the amount the equipment really costs. The video is going viral on Facebook, with nearly 700,000 views. New Crossing Sign Installed At Busy Hillsdale Intersection
HILLSDALE, N.J. -- A newly installed crossing sign will make it easier for Hillsdale pedestrians trying to cross the street at the intersection of Broadway and Park Avenue, according to NorthJersey.com. The new lighted sign is controlled by buttons that light up the sign when pushed to alert drivers that a pedestrian is trying to cross the road, said NorthJersey.com. Parents Of Babies Warned Of Possible Danger In Rice Cereal
Parents with babies will want to avoid rice cereal, the Food and Drug Administration said in a news release, as it works to reduce the levels of inorganic arsenic in the cereal aimed at babies. Wilton Police Join Distracted Driving Campaign
WILTON, Conn. -- Drivers who enjoy chatting on their phones might soon find themselves with a ticket as the the Wilton Police Department partners with the Connecticut Highway Safety Office as part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month to crack down on drivers who choose to ignore the state's cellphone laws. N.Y. Agreement Bars Beach Bum Tanning Salons From Making Health Claims
Under an agreement with the New York State Attorney General's Office, a popular tanning salon has agreed to stop touting the health claims of "tanning," said Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman. During an investigation, Schneiderman's office found that Beach Bum Tanning Salons made false and misleading health claims about indoor tanning, suggesting that the practices posed no significant cancer risk and could even prevent certain cancers. Police: Danbury Market Owner Accidentally Slams Car Into Building
DANBURY, Conn. -- A Danbury store owner slammed his Mercedes into the side of his own business on Germantown Road, causing heavy damage to the building and car, according to the Danbury Police.Danbury police said Mohan Sharma, 71, of Danbury, drove into the side of Jimmie's Market at about 4:50 a.m. Tuesday. Officers believe he pressed on the gas pedal when he intended to use the brakes, police said. Sharma was not injured during the incident.
