Jon graduated from Cornell University and received his master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University. Across a 35-year career, he's worked as a reporter for daily newspapers in Chicago, New York, Ohio & Washington, D.C and as managing editor for weekly newspapers in Rye, White Plains and Harrison.

Update: Police ID 18-Year-Old Father Fatally Shot In Pleasantville Updated: An 18-year-old father was shot and killed late Tuesday night in Atlantic County, authorities said. The victim was identified as Byron Jones of Pleasantville, the father of daughter who is about to turn 1-year-old. Jones died of multiple gunshot wounds, police said. The fatal shooting occurred about 11 p.m. in the 300 block of Edgeley Avenue near Ansley Boulevard in Pleasantville. Pleasantville police and detectives from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit were investigating. This is a developing news story. CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES

Multiple-Car Crash Injures 11, Some Severely; Closes Route 1 In Woodbridge At least 11 people were injured including several seriously in a Woodbridge crash Wednesday, authorities said. Several victims were trapped and had to be extracted by firefighters and EMS crews, responding to the intersection of Route 1 and Randolph Avenue, around 12:10 p.m., reports say. Woodbridge Police Warn Residents About Vehicle Break-Ins Woodbridge police are warning residents that the township "has been hit with a rash of vehicle burglaries." Many of the vehicles targeted in recent weeks were left unlocked, police said on the department's Facebook page. "Please lock your vehicle and remove all valuables,'' police said.

Was Body Found Floating In Central Jersey Lake Registered Sex Offender? UPDATE: A 60-year-old man found floating dead in a Mercer County lake may have been a registered sex offender in the area. Local police identified the body as Dana "Mike" Fields, of Highstown, but did not say if it was the same Dana M. Fields, a registered sex offender in the area. Sgt. Benjamin Miller, a Hightstown Police Department spokesman, said he could not confirm or deny if it was the same person. Central Jersey Pedestrian, 24, Fatally Injured By Two Cars In Mercer County A 24-year-old pedestrian from Piscataway died late Monday after being struck by two vehicles in Mercer County, authorities said. The fatal collision, which closed Route 1 north in West Windsor for about two hours early Tuesday, remains under investigation. The name of the victim -- and the names of two out-of-state drivers -- had not been released. Authorities: Edison Man, 42, Charged In Fatal Shooting A 42-year-old man from Edison has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Perth Amboy, authorities said. Robert Hagens, 42, was charged on Tuesday with the murder of Vidal Carrasquillo-Vasquez, 41, of Perth Amboy, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Perth Amboy Police Chief Roman McKeon. Evesham PD: South Jersey Man Filed False Report Claiming Police Officer 'Pointed A Gun At Him' A 25-year-old man from Burlington County has been arrested for making a false police report and misusing the 9-1-1 system, authorities said. Prosecutor: Lakewood Man Charged In Fatal Stabbing A 32-year-old man from Lakewood has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of another man, authorities said. The 29-year-old victim's name had not been released pending next-of-kin notification. Jorge Santiago-Garcia was charged with murder and two weapons possession violations, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said on Tuesday. Authorities: Burlington Man, 54, Admits Killing Mother, Hiding Her Body In Edgewater Park A 54-year-old man from Burlington County has admitted to killing his mother last year, before hiding her in the trunk of his car, authorities said. Brian K. Templeton faces up to 25 years in state prison on the charge of first-degree aggravated manslaughter, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said. Allentown Driver, 50, Seriously Hurt In Mercer County I-195 Crash A man from Monmouth County was seriously hurt in a one-car crash on Interstate-195 in Robbinsville, authorities said. Noel Rosado of Allentown, who turned 50 on Friday, was taken to Helene Fuld Medical Center, New Jersey State Trooper Alejandro Goez said. Rosado was driving a Lexus RC 350 about 9:50 p.m. on Thursday when he ran off of I-195 and into the righthand guardrail, Goez said. The Lexus crossed back over all the lanes near mile-marker 6.9 and ran into a concrete barrier, Goez said. The cause of the crash has not been determined, he said.
