Driver Rescued After SUV Crashes Into Auto Parts Store In Region A driver had to be rescued after an SUV crashed into an auto parts store in the region. Fire officials in Dutchess County said crews were called to the Dover Plains store in Dover Village Plaza Tuesday, April 19, with reports of a car into a building. Arriving crews found the SUV with its rear end protruding from an exterior wall and the driver still stuck inside, fire officials said. They had to cut away part of the building in order to free the trapped occupant. Fire officials said medics evaluated the patient at the scene and found no injuries. It's unclear what led up to the crash.

Cause Of Death Determined After Man Crashes Down Embankment Into River In Region A man whose car drove off an embankment and landed upside down in a local river died from drowning, New York State Police said. Edward Mastrangelo, age 66, of Queensbury, was driving in Saratoga County on Old Corinth Road in Hadley Sunday, April 24, when he crashed into the Sacandaga River, police said. Former State Employee Indicted For Unemployment Insurance Fraud A former employee at the New York State Department of Labor is accused of using his position to commit unemployment insurance fraud. A federal grand jury indictment unsealed Friday, April 22, alleges that Albany resident Wendell Giles, age 51, conspired with another NYSDOL worker to fraudulently obtain unemployment insurance benefits, including federally funded pandemic relief benefits. Former Fairfield Hockey Player Dies At Age 23 Family and friends are mourning the death of a former standout hockey goalie from the region. Fairfield County native Charlie Capalbo, age 23, of the town of Fairfield, died Sunday, April 24, following a five-year battle with cancer, according to a GoFundMe page established for his family. “After five years and 745 nights spent in hospitals, let’s just say that one got by Charlie in the 4th overtime today,” reads a post from GoFundMe organizer John McCormick. Man Seriously Injured After Crash In Parking Lot At Long Island School A Long Island man is recovering after crashing his motorcycle at an elementary school, police said. The incident happened in Bay Shore at around 2:45 p.m. Sunday, April 24. Phone Scams Under Investigation In Area Residents in the area are being warned to look out for potential phone scammers.
