Rutherford Remembers Native Son, Tuskegee Airman, Lt. Calvin Spann RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Rutherford native and former Tuskegee Airman Lt. Calvin Spann was honored on Sunday by his home city after passing away on Sept. 6 at the age of 90, according to northjersey.com.  Spann joined the famed all-black air squadron at the age of 17. He flew missions against the Nazi Luftwaffe.
