New York Region Ranks High Among Rates For Baby Sitters WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The average hourly rate for a baby sitter in the New York area is among the highest in the country, according to The Wall Street Journal. Baby sitters in and around New York City average $15.09 per hour, $1.65 higher than the national average, The Wall Street Journal reported. The cost of finding a sitter is increasing nationwide.
