NYC Marathon Legend Allan Steinfeld, Former Rye Neck Teacher, Dies at 70
Allan H. Steinfeld, 70, known for modernizing the technical operations of the New York City Marathon and as a beloved math and physics teacher in Rye Neck who volunteered with Road Runners, died Tuesday, Jan. 24.
The cause was multiple system atrophy, a neurological disease, according to his brother Jay Cody.
Steinfeld, along with Fred Lebow, an impulsive entrepreneur in Manhattan’s garment district, began in 1970 to grow the race from a field of 127 runners to one with tens of thousands.

Obituary: Edwin Shapiro, Ossining Town Justice
OSSINING, N.Y. -- Edwin S. Shapiro, 86, a longtime Ossining Town Justice, died on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at his Briarcliff Manor home after a long illness.
He served as Town Justice from 1980 till his retirement in 2011, winning election seven times.
Born in 1931 in Brooklyn, he graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., in 1952 and received his law degree from Harvard in 1955. He then practiced law in Manhattan for several years until moving his practice to Briarcliff Manor.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Garnerville residents who played the Take 5 lottery game on Saturday, Jan. 28, should be checking their lottery tickets for a winner after someone from the area matched all five numbers, according to New York State Lottery officials.
