More Than Three Dozen Left Out In Cold After Haverstraw Apartment Fire
HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- More than 25 people stood in freezing temperatures as a fire ripped through a Broad Street apartment building around midnight Monday in Haverstraw, according to Haverstraw Fire Chief Robert Drexler. The fire, which started in the back of the building on the second floor at 1 Broad St., was contained to one apartment but caused smoke and water damage to other nearby apartments, and the businesses located below the apartments, Drexler said. Suffern Shoplifter Runs From Store Security, Nabbed By Police
RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police nabbed a Suffern woman who security officers said bolted from the Airmont Walmart without paying for items stuffed into her purse and shopping cart, authorities said Friday. Lisa Cottone, 59, was arrested at 7:20 p.m. Thursday by a Ramapo police sergeant in the parking lot after she fled from store security and out of the store with the merchandise, police said. Cottone was charged with petit larceny and is expected back in Airmont Court early next month.
