Rockland Sheriff's Newest K-9 'Shaz' Sniffs Out Suspect
ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- An unsuspecting visitor to the Rockland County Correctional Center was surprised when she was busted for marijuana after the center's newest trainee, K-9 Shaz, smelled marijuana coming from her locker.
Kimberly Carlisle, 33, of Spring Valley, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, after the dog, who is being trained to combat illegal contraband from entering the facility, walked by on a training mission and smelled the drugs, said Chief William Barbara.
Shaz will graduate next week from the K-9 academy along with her handler, he added.

Teen Arrested Twice In Same Day Following Burglary Report In Putnam
PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Putnam County Sheriff's deputies arrested the same man twice in one day, once following a traffic stop, and again after he called the department regarding a burglary, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
Kyle B. Hetman, 18, of Fort Montgomery, was first stopped for speeding around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday on Route 9D in the Town of Philipstown, police said.
During the stop, Deputy Benjamin Levine detected the odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle and saw evidence of marijuana usage inside the car, police said.
