Lake Mahopac Hero Teen To Receive Liberty Medal, State's Highest Honor
MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- The heroic teen from Lake Mahopac who jumped into cold waters to save two girls from drowning following a car accident, will be honored by State Sen. Terrence Murphy with the New York State Liberty Medal.
Cullen Malzo, 19, will receive the award during the Wednesday, Dec. 7, meeting of the Carmel Town Board at 60 McAlpin Ave., in Mahopac at 7 p.m.

Two Face Drug Charges After Separate Traffic Stops In Kent
KENT, N.Y. -- Kent Police nabbed two local residents on drug possession charges during separate traffic stops, according to the Kent Police Department.
On Saturday, Nov. 26, Kent officers stopped Anthony Garvey, 23, of Kent, for acting suspiciously on Bowen Road. During the stop, officers found Garvey in possession of Dilaudid pills and a hypodermic needle, police said.
He was released without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 14.

Orangetown Draws Praise From U.S. Attorney After Pharmacist's Sentencing
ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- The Orangetown Police Department, along with several other law enforcement agencies, drew praise Wednesday from U.S. Attorney for the Southern District Preet Bharara, for their help in bringing down a pharmacist who was dealing oxycodone.
Lilian Jakacki, aka “Lilian Wieckowski,” was sentenced to four years in prison for illegally distributing 100,000 tablets of oxycodone, Medicare fraud, and money laundering, Bharara said.
