DSS, Rockland County Sheriff's Office Collaborate To Combat Fraud NEW CITY, N.Y. -- The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Social Services have teamed up to combat fraud by working to prevent ineligible inmates from receiving benefits by matching individuals incarcerated in the county jail with those receiving benefits. In 2015, the DSS recovered or avoided payments totaling $155,376.46, and some $259,365.46 has been recovered or saved since the program's inception in 2013. Two Yonkers Homes Face Demolition After Fire YONKERS, N.Y. -- Fire officials said that two Yonkers homes badly damaged by a fire on Monday will be torn down, according to News 12.The fire, which started about 2 p.m. in a multifamily home at 53 Herriot St., quickly spread to the building next door, according to fire officials. High winds fanned the flames, escalating the fire from a two-alarm to a four-alarm very quickly, said News 12.
