Bad News For Noise Violators, Good For Some Who Owe Towing Fines: NJ Motor Vehicle Bills Passed
Good news for vehicle owners or leasers in New Jersey in towing and storage debt, bad news for noise violators. Senate President Nick Scutari, who was named acting governor following the death of Sheila Oliver, signed a handful of bills into law early this week. Among them, one that sets penalties for noise violations, another that caps towing and storage fees. One bill, S3374, caps vehicle towing and storage charges at $5,000 and, if the owner isn't notified within 30 days by the towing company, that fee is capped at $750. Former NFL Star Fred Smoot Arrested In Virginia
Former NFL star-turned Washington Commanders broadcaster Fred Smoot surrendered to authorities this week in Loudoun County, Daily Voice has learned. The 44-year-old former cornerback surrendered at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center Thursday, Aug. 10, on a charge of "failure to comply with support obligation," the Washington Post reports citing the county sheriff. The 45-year-old boater killed this week in Cape May Harbor is being mourned by those who knew him. Christopher W. Heitman, a longtime camera operator for various news networks, was operating a 17-foot Sea Hunt struck a pipe that broke free from its mooring and entered the channel around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, New Jersey State Police said. A mulch pile fire continues to rage hours after being ignited in Stafford County. The fire was reported Thursday, Aug. 10 near the intersection of Courthouse Road and Austin Ridge Road, sending smoke over I-95, officials said.
