Beacon Decides On New Schools Superintendent BEACON, N.Y. -- Following a nationwide search and a turnover of nine school chiefs over the past decade, the Beacon City School District has chosen a new superintendent to take over for 2017-18 school year, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. Matthew Landahl, currently the deputy superintendent of the Ithaca City School District, is expected to be confirmed during a District meeting Thursday, said the Journal. Work On Route 119 To Cause Heavy Delays TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Commuters should plan for extra travel time over the next two weeks as work on Route 119 will close westbound lanes beginning Monday, Jan. 30, according to the state Department of Transportation. Motorists should expect heavy delays and seek alternate routes where possible to avoid the area, officials said. Jairo Marte, 36, was last known to reside in Stony Point. He is wanted on a warrant for driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and fleeing the scene of an accident, police said. Patterson Man Who Crashes Into Bridge Was Driving Drunk, Police Say KENT, N.Y. -- A Patterson man who slammed his car into a bridge on Friday, Jan. 13, was charged with driving drunk, according to the Kent Police Department. Richard Hofmeister, 46, was charged with aggravated DWI when Officer Corey Ashe found Hofmeister's car on Mooney Hill  Road after crashing into a bridge. Both the car and the bridge had received extensive damage from the crash, said police.
