Poughkeepsie Man Faces Heroin Charges After Drug Task Force Serves Warrant
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A Poughkeepsie man is behind bars after City of Poughkeepsie police and members of the Dutchess County Drug Task Force recovered heroin, scales, and drug packaging materials while serving a search warrant on Monday.
The task force, along with members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Neighborhood Recovery Unit, executed the warrant at 20 Mansion St., after an investigation revealed narcotics sales taking place at the home, said Frank Tasciotti, assistant coordinator of the task force.

NYACK, N.Y. -- Carolyn Vernum Maurizi, 60, of Nyack, died Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Vernum Maurizi was born on Sept. 9, 1956, in New York and graduated from Tappan Zee High School in 1974.
She was a traveler and adventurer and loved taking care of animals and people. She also enjoyed fixing things, taking photos, and handing out vegetables from her garden to her neighbors.
Her family and friends will miss her warmth, sense of humor, her spontaneity and laughter.

Inmate Assaults Officer In Dutchess, Sheriff Says
DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Dutchess County inmate accused of attacking two officers in December, is being investigated by the Dutchess County Sherrif's Office for allegedly assaulting another corrections officer, according to the Sheriff's Office.
David Trotta, 21, who attacked the two other corrections officers on Thursday, Dec. 8, is accused of attacking another guard on Wednesday, Jan. 18, said Capt. John Watterson.
"We are currently investigating the incident, he hasn't been charged with the second attack at this time," said Watterson.

Kent Man, 27, In Car On Side Of Road Under Influence Of Drugs, Police Say
KENT, N.Y. -- Friday the 13th turned into a bad night for a Kent man who was charged with driving high on drugs after police found him parked alongside Farmer's Mills Road, according to the Kent Police Department.
Officer Jason Knapped charged Michael Urbanak, 27, with felony DWAI/Drugs after finding him sitting in the car around 10:15 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 13, police said.
A check of Urbanak's driver's license found that he had a previous DWAI/Drug conviction from 2013.
He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
