State Certifies Clarkstown Police's Critical Response Team NEW CITY, N.Y. -- The Clarkstown Police Department's Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been certified by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), according to Police Chief Michael Sullivan. CIRT is one of only six teams in the state to receive this recognition. The standards were set by the New York State Municipal Police Training Council (MPTC) and the DCJS in 2010. Norwalk Community College Chosen As Site Of Dual Enrollment Experiment NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk Community College has been selected to take part in a U.S. Department of Education Dual Enrollment experiment to provide federal Pell Grant money to high school students taking college courses for credit. Norwalk Community College is one of only 44 colleges in the nation invited to take part in this initiative. Mount Vernon Votes To Refund $58,000 For Overvalued Tax Assessment MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A Mount Vernon resident who contested his property assessment and tax bill will receive a $58,402 tax refund following a vote by the Board of Estimate and Contract in his favor, according to Lohud.com.Frank DeLeonardis, who owns the former site of the Westchester Community College extension, was able to challenge his tax assessment through a tax certiorari, because the town hasn't revalued its property values since the 19th century, said Lohud.com. Thousands Sign Petition To Save Port Chester Firefighters' Jobs PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Eight laid-off Port Chester firefighters walked into Village Hall Wednesday, carrying more than 450 pages of signatures from residents in favor of saving their jobs, according to News 12. Due to budget issues, the village fired the eight paid firefighters and kept the volunteer firefighters.
