New Canaan's Saxe Middle School Raising Funds For Playground In Kenya
NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- A group of eighth-graders from Saxe Middle School in New Canaan, with the guidance of STEM teacher Vivian Birdsall, are working to raise $3,500 for a school in Kenya that needs a playground. They have set up a GoFundMe page as well as donation boxes at the school, and are planning a special event on June 10. The Nambale Magnet School, located in Nambale, Kenya, is the first of its kind and provides a chance for orphaned children to live better lives. STRATFORD, Conn. -- Stratford Town employees interested in learning CPR can receive free training as part of the town's “HeartSafe Community," taking place in June. During the month of June, Stratford EMS will be offering American Heart Association, Heartsaver, Adult & Child CPR/AED & First Aid training free of charge to town employees. NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Six students from Columbus Elementary School in New Rochelle recently traveled to Nashville, Tenn., to compete in the 2016 National Elementary School K-6 Chess Championships.The team of fourth-graders placed 30th out of 645 teams in the K-5 U900 section.This was the 14th time the Columbus Chess Club has sent a group of students to the national competition. Somers Girl Scouts Donate A Ton Of Goods To Putnam Humane Society
SOMERS, N.Y. -- Somers Girls Scouts Troop 1460 has been working hard to make sure that animals at the Putnam Humane Society have enough food, blankets and toys.The troop selected the shelter to be the recipient of the Bronze Award, which means the facility received more than a ton of supplies for the dogs and cats housed there.
