Putnam Humane Society Hopes For Big Response On Pet Adoption Day CARMEL, N.Y. -- The Putnam Humane Society is calling all residents who are looking to adopt a pet to visit the shelter on Saturday during National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day.The accompanying pictures show just a few of the dogs and cats at the Putnam Humane Society looking for a family. The center is also asking for donations and for volunteers to help all of the animals.  The shelter is at 68 Old Route 6 in Carmel. The road race will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Wilton Center. Runners will cross over Ridgefield Road, then head down into the trails accessible in Merwin Meadows.
