Orangetown Police Looking For Teens For Youth Police Academy
ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- The Orangetown Youth Police Academy is looking for teens between the ages of 14 and 18 who would like to learn the basic principles of the police, fire, and emergency medical services professions. The goal of the youth academy is to expose teens to as much information about these professions as possible so they can consider them as careers. Night classes will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in May and June. Day classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in June and one day in July. Clarkstown Police Investigating Thefts From Vehicles
CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- The Clarkstown Police Department is investigating a series of car larcenies in the parking lot of the Nanuet Little League on Sunday, April 24.According to police, at least five cars had their windows smashed, and property was stolen from four of the cars between 3:30 and 5 p.m. In each case where property was taken, the victim had left a purse in the vehicle in plain view. Abandoned Darien Boa Constrictor Finds New Home In Norwalk
DARIEN, Conn. -- The boa constrictor found slithering about on Lakeside Drive in Darien on April 23 has found a new home, according to the Darien Times. The 5-foot-long snake was adopted by a Norwalk man, according to the Darien Animal Control Office. Familiar with snakes, the new owner said that if the previous owner comes forward, he would be happy to return the snake, said the Darien Times. Police Take Gun From Ex-Mount Vernon Police Commissioner Raynor
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Westchester County police took former Mount Vernon police Commissioner Terrance Raynor's gun after finding he didn't have a permit to carry one, according to Lohud.com. Westchester County Police officers discovered Raynor's gun when the responded to a confrontation between two men at Kensico Dam Plaza. By the time officers arrived, the two men had left, but they talked to people in the park, including Raynor, who they noticed was carrying a weapon under his jacket, said Lohud.com. Stamford Man Admits To Having Sex With Child
STAMFORD, Conn. -- A 21-year-old Stamford man has been sentenced to five years in prison after telling a judge the girl's description of their encounters were true, according to the Stamford Advocate. Christophe Hernandez-Lucero, who is from Guatemala, also faces deportation after serving the prison sentence, reported the Stamford Advocate. Easton Police Warn Residents Of Phone Scams
EASTON, Conn. -- The Easton Police Department has received reports that a new round of phone scams has just begun in the area. The callers are claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service and their goal is to try and get money from the person they are calling, police said. The scammers also make threats of arrest by local authorities if the victim doesn't agree to make a payment, and they demand a call back and use a valid phone number. POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Residents who need to renew their license or registration can do so at any local Department of Motor Vehicle office. But Dutchess County Clerk Brad Kendall said to skip the lines they can mail in the renewal notice.
