Iona’s Economic Impact on New York State Totals $258 Million NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- New Rochelle's Iona College is the town's second-largest private employer which contributes as much as $258.5 million a year to the regional economy, according to a recent report. The study, conducted on behalf of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU) by the Center for Governmental Research, shows that in 2015 the college spent $99.4 million in wages, providing 1,850 local jobs, and contributed $7.3 million in state income and sales tax.  In addition, another $37 million came from student and visitor spending. Poughkeepsie Woman Steals $1.4K In Merchandise From Walmart, Police Say A Poughkeepsie woman was nabbed as she walked out of a Walmart with two shopping carts full of more than $1,400 worth of merchandise without paying, according to the Ulster Police Department. India Reed, 41, was charged Saturday with felony grand larceny after store security officers saw Reed leaving the store without paying for the goods at the Walmart on Sottile Boulevard, police said. According to Walmart Asset Protection, the merchandise was determined to be worth $1,437.66, police said. Poughkeepsie Man Behind Bars On Drug Charges DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A 23-year-old man found himself behind bars after failing to show up in court to face drug charges, according to the Town of Lloyd Police. Joshua Peterson, 23, of Poughkeepsie was arrested Thursday, Dec. 15, on a bench warrant for failing to appear in court, said Lt. James Janso. Peterson was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance.  He was arraigned in the Town of Lloyd Court and is being held at the Ulster County Jail on $5,000 bail or $20,000 insurance bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 29.

Yorktown Teen Arrested Again After Endangering Child, Police Say YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A Yorktown teen found himself under arrest again on Thursday after failing to pay a fine for endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Yorktown Police Department. A bench warrant was issued for the unidentified 17-year-old teen after he failed to pay the fine associated with charge and for disorderly conduct, police said. The teen voluntarily surrendered himself on Thursday after learning of the warrant, police said. Following processing, he was released on his own recognizance and is set to appear in court on Jan. 5, 2017.
