Irvington Students Get Feet-On Learning Experience With Giant Traveling Map IRVINGTON, N.Y. -- Fifth-grade students at Main Street School in Irvington have welcomed National Geographic’s life-sized traveling map, which will call the school home for two weeks as students learn about the Western Hemisphere with a feet-on learning experience.“Instead of sitting at a desk and learning about landforms, longitude and latitude and other map features, the students are actually experiencing the map with their hands and feet,” Principal Joyce Chapnick said. “The students must show persistence in finding different locations on the map.” National Geographic provided the school…

Stony Point Woman Faces Stolen Car, Drug Charges STONY POINT, N.Y. -- A Stony Point woman was arrested by town police after she was accused of stealing a car from Suffern and possessing heroin, authorities said. Angela M. Schlageter, 23, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, possession of stolen property, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, fourth-degree grand larceny and petty larceny, police said. Construction Begins Thursday On New Canaan's Saxe Middle School NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Shovels will uncover the first bit of dirt for the new Saxe Middle School during a special groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, according to the New Canaan Advertiser. The new $18.6 million school, originally planned to open at the beginning of the 2017 school year, has been moved until the fall of 2017 due to a delay in permits from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, said the NC Advertiser. Suffern Police, Residents Help Free Trapped Baby Raccoon SUFFERN, N.Y. -- A baby raccoon that was caught in a trap on Rockland Terrace was rescued by Suffern police officers after they received reports of an animal crying for a long period of time. When officers responded to the scene, they found a baby raccoon stuck in a trap that was meant for another animal. GoFundMe Launched For Ossining Teens To Attend Conference OSSINING, N.Y. -- Twenty-five Ossining High School teens who are members of Youth 2 Youth have started a GoFundMe page in an effort to raise funds to help pay their way to attend a four-day Y2Y Leadership Conference. Coast Guard Suspends Search For Bridgeport Man Missing In Long Island Sound BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The search for a Bridgeport man last seen Sunday floating in the water near Seaside Park in Bridgeport has been suspended by the U.S. Coast Guard, according the Connecticut Post. Shigemune Mori, 32, fell into the Sound when the inflatable boat he was on tipped over. Police told the Connecticut Post there is little hope that Mori, who was not wearing a life jacket, would be found alive.
