Pearl River Loses Merritt Tennis Courts To Development
PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- Since 1931 the clay courts at Merritt Tennis Courts in Pearl River have been home to tennis fans from across Rockland County. But soon, the courts will disappear, and in their place will be six new homes, said lohud.com. The 3-acre property, on Ehradt Road near Townline Road owned by Ed Merritt, will be sold to a developer for almost a $1 million. The courts closed in 2014 as the tennis boom died and following the death of Merritt's father, said lohud.com. Updates Residents On Quality Of Rockland County Water
WEST NYACK, N.Y. -- Rockland County residents who recently received a drinking water quality notice from SUEZ do not have to worry about drinking the water or boiling the water, according to Suez officials in West Nyack. Customers received the notice advising them that the company exceeded a drinking water quality standard at two testing locations. Laboratory results showed that the average trihalomethane levels were 80.6 parts per billion (ppb) and 84.2 ppb, slightly above the 80 ppb standard set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. -- North Castle Police responded to a complaint of vehicles speeding down Laurel Hill Place and failing to stop at the stop sign, causing a dangerous condition for pedestrians on April 1. Putnam Reports Spike In Sexually Transmitted Diseases
BREWSTER, N.Y. -- Putnam County health officials said that rates of the sexually-transmitted disease chlamydia have been rising dramatically in Putnam County, in comparison to both the national average and New York State (excluding New York City). From 2006-14, Putnam’s rate has increased more than 200 percent, compared to 32 percent in the country and 38 percent in the state. “Rates are measured in number of cases per 100,000 people and while we still have lower case numbers, the rate of increase is alarming,” explained Dr. Michael J.
